So, I got back to work yesterday and everyone wanted to know what I did on my five day weekend. Yes, I took a five day weekend and it was… well, it was awesome but at first I didn’t know what to say in my answer. I didn’t go out of town, or throw any parties. Basically, I had an epic hangout session with the dog.

It is actually surprising that I really haven’t mentioned my dog on here before. Her name is Rella, she is a four year old pit bull and she loves nothing more than sleeping under the covers right next to me. She is actually my boyfriend’s dog, but since he says that she loves me more than air and the feeling is mutual I’ll go ahead and claim her.

During our epic hangout session we slept in a lot, watched movies, played Frisbee, went on several hikes and a nice walk. This is her on Flattop.

She apparently hates getting is picture taken so here is the view from the top of the hike instead.

Rella and I also spent a lot of time in the kitchen which is a little odd since I’m not the chef in the house. I guess since the BF was working and is now out of town being forced to fend for ourselves was a good thing and we made:

And Mayan Hot Chocolate Cupcakes – these are a combination of this chocolate cupcake recipe (just the basic cupcakes not the extra chocolate stuff) with the spices and frosting from here.

I should thank Rella for hanging out and going hiking with me. Having a dog to take was honestly the only reason I was willing to go by myself in the middle of the week.

Happy Monday! I hope you all had a fantastic weekend. I promised an update on my Wardrobe Rescue Mission last week so here it is.
The end of the first week of my rescue mission was Friday and when I got on the scale I was pleasantly surprised with a three pound weight loss! Honestly, the first week always seems to be the easiest but I’m still thrilled. So, how did I do it? Well, I tracked everything I was eating and all of my activities with Myfitnesspal.com and here is what the week looked like:

As far as my food went, I really tried to focus on lots of fruits and veggies. Also, you should probably know, I don’t eat red meat or pork ever so many of my days were full on vegetarian. I’m a big fan of avocados, eggs, fruit and big salads. Additionally, I hate feeling like I’m totally restricted even when I’m trying to be super health conscious so if you looked at my diary you would see a chocolate cupcake I had to taste test before giving the batch to my Dad for Father’s Day, a slice of pizza and a beer at a concert I attended on Wednesday, a few peanut M&M’s from the work place candy dish, and a couple of non-fat chai tea lattes on the mornings I just couldn’t get going without some caffeine and a cozy cup.

So, what is my plan going forward? Well, the weekend was busy since Saturday I ran in the Mayor’s Marathon Five Miler Race and Sunday I finished moving (three flights of stairs down at my old apartment and three flights up at the new house). Today I’m planning on yoga and a run, hiking Tuesday, yoga Wednesday, and a soccer game Thursday night. Wow, I’m gonna get back in my skinny jeans in no time.

Since you all know I’ve mounted a rescue mission for my wardrobe I thought I’d share a few things I’ve learned while keeping my food diary. One of the biggest is related to portion size. I think that is something American’s struggle with in general. I find I have a hard time judging the amount of any given item when I am away from home and don’t typically carry measuring cups and spoons with me. Frankly, I don’t know what one ounce looks like. So I searched for some other visuals to help guide me. You know, like a deck of cards equals a serving of meat. (It is really the only one I can ever remember.)

I thought this guide from Prevention Magazine was really nice since it is all based on your hand which is always with you.
