I was first introduced to foam rolling while in physical therapy for an ongoing knee issue. I had a very tight IT band and foam rolling is a great way to stretch it out. It is also pretty uncomfortable, especially when you aren’t used to it. After my initial experience I was pretty gun shy when a trainer uttered the words “foam rolling” again several years later. I instantly flashed back to teary eyed PT sessions. Fortunately my re-introduction was much less painful and much more relaxing. In fact, I now believe in the magic of foam rolling. I regularly use one at the gym but with summer in full swing, I have been doing all my running outside with no foam roller in sight. And, after a sleepless, very sore, night following the Twilight 12K Friday I think I’m ready to take the plunge and order one of my very own.
