So, I’ve been a bit off my running schedule lately and I needed some motivation to get back with it. I started looking at fall races and found a couple of 10K races I may sign up for. I also wanted a running workout to get my butt back out there. I decided to try another interval workout since I really enjoyed the last once. Here is what I came up with.

At the end of mile 3 I also added on 20 crunches and 10 bicycles per side repeated twice, downward dog stretch with 20 cross body high knees (my totally made up name), and a nice pidgin stretch for each side.

Every time I finish a workout like this I feel like I have accomplished so much and I love it.

I followed my workout by trying this Crookneck Squash Frittata recipe from Alton Brown. Mmm, I’m feeling back on track.

It is always nice when you have a partner to workout with. Someone to meet at the gym that won’t let me flake out has been a key part of my most successful workout plans. Recently though, I have been inspired by people I don’t even know. I tend to run the same two routs regularly, often at a similar time of day and find that I see some of the same people out and about running, walking or biking. I like the knowing nod and smile we give each other as we pass on the trail. It is like a little boost of encouragement that I’m not alone in my endeavor; they are there too sweating it out. It is amazing the way a community of runners forms. It engulfs everyone who participates no matter their level or dedication. It sweeps us all together at the start of a race and on the pavement as our paths cross. We follow our favorite running sites and stores. We cheer each other on just by being out there hearts beating, feet hitting the pavement, muscles contracting in a flurry of motion. It truly amazes me the way an individual sport can make me feel so connected to so many.
